Niskayuna High School PTO Committees and Volunteers
Co-presidents – PTO co-presidents’ responsibilities include running PTO meetings and offering support and assistance to PTO volunteers and committee leaders. They also represent the NHS PTO on the PTO Council and on several school committees such as the selection committee for the Hall of Fame.
Co-vice presidents – The co-vice presidents organize a team of parents who accept PTO dues at Back To School Night and help with sign ups for niskypto.org. as well as volunteer opportunities. They also represent the NHS PTO at the 8th grade orientation evenings.
Co-secretaries – The co-secretaries record the minutes at each meeting. They assist the webmasters in communicating information to the NHS parent body.
Treasurer – filled The PTO treasurer maintains our financial records, pays bills and accepts payments, helps with creating the yearly budget and presents a financial report at each PTO meeting.
Webmaster – Our webmasters maintain the high school section of niskypto.org, posting minutes, agendas, newsletters and other documents. They also send out meeting reminders on behalf of the co-presidents, as well as other helpful information, to parents who have subscribed to niskypto.org. Along with the co-secretaries and co-presidents they form the PTO’s Communications Team.
PTO Directory – John Whitney Using data provided by the school district(possible future changes), the PTO directory person formats high school families’, school and PTO contact information into a directory and works with the district print shop(possible future changes) to have it ready for Back To School Night.
Crossroads Chronicles Editor – The Crossroads Chronicle is emailed to high school families every other month. The editor receives articles written by PTO volunteers and high school staff members and compiles them into a newsletter format. 2013 Craft Fair Chairperson – This community event is the PTO's only fundraiser and is held in the fall each year. Chairperson is main contact person, determines layout of fair, prepares forms and communications, solicits and supports crafters and vendors, coordinates with other chairs, and leads the taping of the booths on the night before the fair. 2013 Craft Fair/Bake Sale: Karen Wells and Sarah Murphy Bake Sale chairs solicit bake sale donations, staff sales table 2013 Craft Fair/Raffle: Teri Shanahan Raffle chair solicits donations from crafters, staffs raffle table, conducts raffle, disburses raffle items 2013 Craft Fair/Publicity: Publicity arranges public announcements of fair in various forms of media 2013 Craft Fair/Volunteer Coordinator Volunteer Coordinator develops schedule of volunteer staff for each area of fair, including Friday night layout taping, recruits volunteers, confirmations, and works with other chairs. Also solicits crockpot food donations for Food Concession. 2013 Craft Fair/Food Concession: Bill Gallup Food Concession chair purchases and/or prepares food, drink, and all necessary supplies to be sold at the concession and oversees its operation. Newcomers Dinner – Held in the fall, this dinner welcomes families of freshman and those new to the high school. The chairpersons coordinate food, dessert donations and work with the high school administration on contacting potential attendees.
Junior Class Party Chairperson and Committee – This event, a party for juniors, regardless if they attend the prom, offers a safe environment for the Junior Class to gather for a fun late night of activities and food. This committee plans the event, solicits donations and recruits volunteers.
Senior Gala Committee – This is a semi-formal end of the year event for our seniors. The committee plans activities that take place at the venue and solicits donations from parents and the community.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon – The end of year luncheon expresses our appreciation for our children's teachers. Donations are solicited from parents to provide and supplement a catered meal.
Shared Decision Making Team Parent Reps – Gynger Connolly, Elsa Melby and Wei-Min Ren, opening for parent rep from incoming freshman class Parent reps on the SDM Team meet once a month after school with the principal and faculty and staff representatives to discuss and address issues that impact instruction at the high school.
Senior BBQ Committee – The Senior BBQ is held at the high school after seniors return from the graduation rehearsal. Parents prepare and serve food organized and obtained by the committee.
16th Birthday Cards Committee – This committee creates and sends birthday cards to each Niskayuna High School Student when they turn 16.
